With the Christmas season being in full swing, you might want to consider adding a little sweetness to your table. A homemade recipe is the perfect way to boost your cookie game. Below is a homemade recipe called “Candy Cane Cookies” that’ll be sure to please this holiday season!

You will need quite a few ingredients to make this tasty treat, but it’s a quick and easy recipe to whip up! The ingredients are as follows:

• 1 cup of shortening (Half butter or margarine)

• 1 cup of sifted confectioners sugar

• 1 ½ teaspoons of almond extract

• 2 ½ cups of flower

• ½ teaspoon of red food coloring

• 1 egg

• 1 teaspoon of vanilla

• 1 teaspoon of salt

• ½ cup of sugar

After you gather all of your ingredients together, preheat your oven to 375 degrees to prepare for baking later on. This will give the cookies the perfect amount of heat, baking to perfection. Once the oven is preheated, you can then continue to make the cookies.

In a mixing bowl, mix the shortening, sugar, eggs, and flavorings thoroughly enough to get it to a dough consistency. You will then mix the flour and the salt with the shortening mixture as well. Keep on working the remaining flower into the dough until it holds together.

Next, divide the dough in half and blend the food coloring into one half, leaving one half red and the other its natural color. On a pastry board or a like object, you will then roll a 4-inch strip of dough. If you want smooth, even strips you will need to roll them back and forth on a lightly flowered board. Place the strips aside and start to press them lightly together twisting them like a rope.

Before placing them in the oven to bake, place the cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet, and curve the top of the rope down, in the form of a candy cane. You will then bake these cookies for nine minutes. Be careful not to burn them, so bake only until they are lightly brown.

This recipe will make you 4-dozen candy cane cookies if done accordingly to the instructions. It is a great treat to bring to your Christmas dinner or holiday party. You can leave the candy canes plain or top them off with a sprinkle of powdered sugar for an enhanced taste or for an added decoration to the cookies!
