This past weekend the men’s and women’s soccer team had their doubleheader game tailgate event hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA).

While the first game didn’t start until 1:00 pm, the festivities began earlier that day at 11:00 am. Alyssa Milburn, the Vice President of the Student Government Association, arranged the tailgate to promote Mount spirit and involvement.

“I was happy to see everyone come out to support the Knights and have fun,” says Milburn.

From 11:00 pm to 2:00 pm, SGA was giving out blankets, umbrellas, and a knight’s pride shirt that you can see the men repping in some of their videos on their Instagram page @msmcsoccer. There was bbq style food served such as hamburgers, veggie burgers, potato salad, and coleslaw. For dessert there was a table with apple cider donuts, ice cream and cookies. While waiting for the game to start, attendees played against their friends in corn hole, can jam, and spikeball.

The Men’s soccer team went against Farmingdale for the day’s first game which ended with a final score of 3-0. The women’s team played a crushing game later on that day against Maritime. By the end, the women’s team had won a victorious 9-1.

While the weather wasn’t the nicest, it was a great day on the playing field for both teams.

JC Lopez, senior center back of the team, says, “I thought the tailgate was a good experience for students, teachers, faculty, alumni, and especially the men’s and women’s soccer team. I thought our game went spectacular, the teams played hard, and we are incredibly thankful to be able to play for our alumni. Getting my first collegiate assist at the tailgate was a great experience, and I want to thank everyone that came out.”
