For most students here at Mount Saint Mary College, October 15 was just another long Monday. But for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, it was the start of a new season. It was a day when both teams were allowed to have official practices held at the Kaplan Recreation Center and coaches see the hard work they have put in during the off season.
“Success” was the name of the game for both basketball teams last year. The women’s team won the Skyline Conference and went to the second round of the NCAA tournament only to lose to Lebanon Valley College. Unfortunately, the men’s team did not make it to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament, but they made up for it by winning the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. However, that was last year, and now victory is up in the air.
This year will be different–maybe even a challenge for both teams–but with the hard and grueling hours of work that coaches and players put in, it will pay off. Mount Saint Mary College’s basketball teams have dedicated numerous hours to getting ready for the tough season ahead. No one said it would be easy and both teams know that this year. After introducing new freshmen on both teams and welcoming many veteran players, Skyline might need to watch out! This year, anything can happen, so come out and support both of Mount Saint Mary College’s Basketball teams!
