The Mount Saint Mary Girl’s Basketball Team will begin their season on Nov. 15 at 7p.m. against Bard College at the Kaplan Recreation Center.

Last season, the team finished with a record of 19-6. This season, the team as a whole is looking to win the Skyline Championship.

There are 14 players on the team in total, with 10 returning players, and the team is eager to have a strong, successful season.

Head Coach Michael Coppolino said that the team has been preparing since Sept. 1. They have been weightlifting, working out and playing pickup games two hours a day because the season will begin in a little under four weeks.

“This season, we really want to focus on minimizing turnovers,” he said. “We tied for first in our regular season last year, so this year we really just want to go all the way and win the Skyline Championship.”

The captains this year are two seniors, Jess Rini and Bridget Kelly and junior, Maite Gritsko.

Capt. Rini said, “I feel more pressure as a leader and even though it is sad and exciting to begin my last year, I am ready to leave it all on the floor.”

According to the team, their greatest strengths are defense and intensity on the court, but this season they want to work on 3-point shooting.

Off the court, the team shares a very special bond – allowing them to come out with so many wins last year. Team bonding is extremely important to the Knights.

“I love how the team feels like a family away from home. I can go to all the girls on the team about anything and I know they will always have my back,” said Lyndsay Pace, who is playing for her second year on the team.

The Knights are preparing to win their first home game and hope to see all of the Mount community in the stands cheering them on.
