This semester is in full throttle; I am falling behind in every aspect of my life. I just don’t think I’m going to pass my finals, and on top of that, I have two papers due at the same time. I haven’t started either of the papers yet because I’ve been so busy with extracurriculars. I really want to do well this semester, and I was wondering if you have any advice on time management for me? I always think I’m on top of things, but I realize I get stressed too easily when there’s too much on my plate.
That sounds very stressful. This point of the semester always seems to be a hectic one, and sometimes, we may get caught up in that.
The first thing to remember, is that you will get it done. You’ve done it before, and you’ll do it again. With that in mind, it is time to start getting things done. You said that you always think you’re on top of things, but then you wind up getting stressed too easily. So, you are aware that this is a recurring problem in your life. The fact that you’re aware is good, but now you should start taking steps to work on that problem.
As for time management, set aside an hour every day to work (with NO PHONES!!), with the reward of five minutes at the end for down time. Once you set aside that hour, it will become a routine for you. Try making a checklist; it might overwhelm you at first, but checking things off and accomplishing the tasks will make you feel relieved.
Something else to remember is that your professors are on your side. If you tell them about your situation, I’m sure they will understand and try to help you out as much as they can. They want to see you succeed just as much as you want to succeed. Get to work!
