Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) has attained two new schools on campus, and they are currently residing right in Aquinas Hall.
Recently, the Division of Nursing and the Division of Business have received the accreditation to be officiated as the School of Nursing and the School of Business.
According to the Office of Postsecondary Education, “The goal of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education meets acceptable levels of quality.” The Division of Nursing and the Division of Business both applied for this accreditation and the proper criteria were met.
“The accreditation makes our small campus feel a lot bigger,” said Hannah Mulhall, a pre-med/biology major. “Maybe one day, we’ll get a school for the sciences.”
Instead of changing their curriculum, the divisions are being recognized for what they were already doing right.
“We had to put in a proposal and wait for the results,” said Dr. Jill Brennan-Cook, associate professor of nursing. “The curriculum doesn’t change. Our standards for education were just recognized.”
Mulhall could be right. With MSMC expanding to the Dominican Center and two divisions changing to schools, maybe the School of Sciences is next.
Only time will tell.
