Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) will be host to a charity Battle of the Bands on Saturday, March 29 at 8 p.m. on the first floor of the old Curtin Memorial Library.
The concert, hosted by senior Katrina Avila, will feature five local bands: Nice Shot, Kid (Sayville, NY); Bounce Method (New Paltz, NY); Pros & Icons (New York, NY); Visuals (Yonkers, NY); and Termina (Newburgh, NY). All of the bands are “some form of rock,” according to Avila.
Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door and are being sold outside of the View everyday this week. Tickets can also be purchased by contacting Avila via email at email@example.com. All MSMC students are allowed two non-MSMC guests with a valid photo ID. MSMC students are responsible for their guests.
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Newburgh Ministry and Newburgh’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity, two local nonprofits that help the school’s surrounding community.
Attendees can also buy 50/50 raffle tickets throughout the night for $1 each or $5 for an arm’s length. All attendees are encouraged to bring $10 cash with them to spend on food, refreshments, and raffle tickets. The concert is standing room only.
Avila is a senior communications major. Battle of the Bands is Avila’s senior thesis project.
“I wanted to do battle of the bands because I wasn’t really a fan of the music we’ve had at our previous spring concerts,” said Avila. “So I thought it would be a good idea to host a concert with the kind of music I like, in hopes that other people would like it too.”
Tickets will be on sale outside the View during the following times: Monday, March 24, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Tuesday, March 25, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Wednesday, March 26, 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.; Thursday, March 27, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Friday, March 28, 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
