More than a year after he began his tenure at the Mount, Dr. Jason N. Adsit was finally inaugurated as the college’s seventh president on Friday, Sep. 13.
Inauguration day was filled with anticipation and delivered on all the Pomp and Circumstance that is expected of a mount celebration. An inauguration mass was held in the Dominican Center’s chapel by Cardinal Timothy Dolan; Bishop Dominick J. Lagonegro; The Rev. Keven E. Mackin, the Mount’s fifth president and The Rev. Gregoire J. Fluet, college chaplain and director of campus ministry. Following the mass was the long-awaited inauguration ceremony held in Aquinas Theatre.
After a series of touching speeches by distinguished mount faculty, student leaders and community leaders, such as Cardinal Dolan and Mayor Torrance Harvey of Newburgh, N.Y., the presidential installation began. The long-standing traditions of the ceremony were honored fully as the college charter was entrusted to Dr. Adsit, the presidential medallion was blessed and the presidential chain of office and mace were respectively invested to and presented to Dr. Adsit as well. The ceremony concluded with the recession of the academic community from the theatre.
