On Thursday, August 29, faculty, staff, and students were present as the residence halls of Mount Saint Mary College were blessed by Father Francis, Director of Campus Ministry, at the annual Blessing of the Buildings.

Father Francis started the blessing at 7:00 p.m. in front of Sakac Hall, with help from AJ LaPoint, Assistant Director of Campus Ministry, Megan Capurso, and Adam Earle, both juniors at MSMC. The blessing opened with a passage from the book of Corinthians, “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”

The blessing of Sakac Hall continued with readings lead by students, responsorial Psalms, and ended with the distribution of plaques provided by Campus Ministry. The plaques read, “God bless our home,” and are meant to “serve as a reminder of God’s eternal protective presence” in the residence halls.

After Sakac Hall, Father Francis conducted two identical blessings at Guzman Hall and then at the College Courts directly in front of CC 9. Father Francis made it known to all throughout the Blessing of the Buildings that students and faculty could make appointments to have their offices and bedrooms individually blessed.

Campus Ministry would like to encourage everyone of the MSMC community to attend next year’s Blessing of the Buildings.
