Lukasz Gottwald, aka Dr. Luke, has been in the news recently following his very public lawsuit with Kesha, who claims he sexually abused her while acting as the artist’s producer and recording manager.
Many celebrities have spoken out against Dr. Luke, including Kelly Clarkson, who said in an interview with an Australian radio station that Dr. Luke was “not a good guy,” and that she was basically blackmailed into working (with him).
Forbes.com reported that Sony was allegedly considering dropping Dr. Luke because of all the bad publicity. The website reports Dr. Luke’s representatives have denied said allegations, but Sony would not comment of Gottwald’s status.
Last week, a group of Kesha’s fans gathered outside Sony’s building in Manhattan to deliver a petition with over 400,000 signatures, asking Sony to drop Dr. Luke from their label.
Kesha originally sued to be released from her contract with Dr. Luke, because she refused to work with him, and the contract prevented her from working with anyone else. The judge did not allow her to break her contract. Sony has since offered to let Kesha work with someone else, but she has declined because she fears that they wont promote her album as well without Dr. Luke attached.
The dispute between the performer and the singer and the investigation into the latter’s alleged misconduct are both currently an ongoing matter.
