On Tuesday, November 13th, Mount Saint Mary College’s Habitat for Humanity hosted their annual pizza contest. For a $7 donation to the club, students were able to taste slices from eight local pizzerias to determine which one had the best sauce, which one had the best crust, and which one was the overall best slice of pizza.
I felt like a connoisseur of pizza as I tasted each slice. “This crust is too thick”; “This sauce has really good seasoning”; “I do NOT like this one at all!” In order to prevent students from just voting for their favorite place, the slices were marked with different colored toothpicks according to where they were from. Students casted their votes by checking the box on the ballot as it corresponded to the color of which pizza they chose.
The pies were donated from local pizzerias, including Luca’s Pizza of Newburgh, Eddie’s Gourmet Pizza, Eliana Pizza, Dominos, Mama Theresa’s, Pizza Mia, Stella’s Pizzeria, The Pizza Shop, and Two Amici’s Pizzeria. Randone’s gave Habitat for Humanity a monetary donation, which will be used towards their spring break trip to Texas.
At the end of the night, the members of Habitat for Humanity tallied up the votes and declared Stella’s Pizzeria the winner of the contest. Stella’s is located on 283 Broadway in Newburgh, and you can call (845)562-8188 for information about their menu.
