When out in the world and searching for jobs, either as a student or an alumni of Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC), it can be easy to become overwhelmed by the task. One has to manage and constantly update resumes and cover letters, while searching newspaper advertisements, online databases, and other means of finding job postings.
The Career Center has taken steps to better prepare MSMC students for future job searches by creating the Connections database. With Connections, students and alumni can visit one central website to review postings for internships, volunteer opportunities, and job shadow experiences, as well as full-time and part-time jobs. Furthermore, the website can be used to upload and store your cover letters, resumes, and references.
Career Center Associate Director Kathleen O’Keefe commented that the job postings on Connections come from the Hudson Valley region, as well as providing postings for students from other regions. She stated, “If you’re graduating and you’re going back home…we have companies posting nationally because this database is connected to a national system. So when an employer goes on there, if they’re a national employer, they might decide to post it to all of the colleges that have this particular system.”
At the current time, this database is available to all MSMC students and alumni that register for it, including the freshman class that entered the school population last fall.
Coordinator Robin Rosenberg stated, “There are jobs out there. They want people at the bachelor’s level with the credentials that our students have. They want Mount students because they know the work that our students can do.”
If you’re considering a job search in the near future, take a look at the Career Center’s Connections database, you might find just what you’re looking for.
