The time of the year has come where beautiful new clothes from new or veteran designers cover the runways of New York, Paris, London and Milan. It is also the time of year where every public relations professional is at their busiest. So what does it take to survive fashion month? The accessories team at Elle magazine has a few ideas on how to handle fashion month and look good while doing it.
Chris Macaraeg is an accessories assistant at Elle magazine and his prep for fashion week includes booking around shows for press previews, coordinating with public relations managers to make sure everyone gets their seating assignment, and having meetings with the Elle team to discuss logistics. In order to keep from becoming overwhelmed with the madness, Chris states that “really being organized is key, I make an excel sheet to log everything and account for all the shows.” Since Chris is constantly on the go during the month, he likes to keep his style light and sporty, stating “Adidas sneakers are a go-to because I am always on the run, I also try to wear some bomber or baseball jackets.”
As Elle magazine’s accessories director, Christina Holevas has a lot to do during the month. She tries to prepare making sure all of her work is done and that she is as organized as she can be. Holevas has a comfy-casual style which consists of small heels and jeans. During fashion week she tries to “look a little cooler than I do during the week, but I usually still try to keep it comfy.”
As for the shows that are coming up in the next few weeks, both are excited about Alexander Wang. “I really love Public School,” states Chris “but I am also excited to see Donna Karen this year as well as Jill Sanders, Gucci and I think Prada is always pretty great.” As for Christina, she’s looking forward to the designers in New York stating “I’m excited to see Marc Jacobs and Opening Ceremony.” Though fashion month is hectic, Chris and Christina are ready for what this month has in store.
