Mount Saint Mary College Students: Are you interested in writing, photography, videography, editing, reporting, designing, or selling ads? If so, we invite you to contribute to Mount Messenger.

Stop by our office on the first floor of Aquinas Hall, email us at mountmessenger@my.msmc.edu, or attend one of our weekly meetings, held every Wednesday during the fall and spring semesters from 5:30-6pm in the Division of Arts and Letters  (Room 120).

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a staff member to contribute to the paper?
No. Any student of Mount Saint Mary College may submit an article, photo, video, or other media to the paper at any time. Staff members are expected to contribute to the paper on a regular basis, and may be given additional responsibilities as the editors see fit.

How can I join the Mount Messenger staff?
Staff positions are assigned annually in the beginning of the fall semester.

Do I need to be a journalism major to contribute?
No. Students in any division may contribute to the paper.

Do I need previous experience to contribute or to apply for a staff position?
No. While some prior experience may help, we encourage everyone to submit to the paper.

What staff positions are available?
Staff positions include co-managing editor, news editor, features editor, sports editor, photo editor, reporter, columnist, videographer, photographer, business/advertising manager, ad sales, web content manager, and comic artist.

How much time must I commit to the paper?
Staff writers are expected to contribute several articles each month, and may have additional responsibilities. Non-staff contributors can submit articles at any time.

Will I be paid for contributing to the paper?
No. All staff positions are unpaid, and all contributions to the paper are considered voluntary.
